On home ground in Leeds, the LKA had an excellent day at the Northern Regional Championships. Our Ladies led the way with 3 of the 4 finalists in the Female Kumite event. Ashley Scott beat team-mate Mel Finlay in the Semi Final before beating England team-mate Caroline McGrath from Ronin in the final.
Immediately following this the LKA Female Team lined up in the Team Kumite final against Ronin and ran out 2-1 winners, with Ashley winning the final match with an excellent Ippon victory.
David Wright took a decisive win in the Male Kata event with a superb performance of Unsu, beating England team-mate Jacob Baker into 2nd place.
Joe Hart fought very well, reaching the final of the Male Kumite where the experience of European Champion Chris Cray proved too much. Joe was also part of the LKA Mens team that narrowly lost to old rivals Halewood in the semi-final.
With a number of the children also taking medal positions it proved to be a very satisfying day all round. After such a good showing on home ground, all at the LKA wish David Wright, Ryan Tucker, Mel Finlay, Ashley Scott amp; Emma Nunn good luck at next month’s European Championships in Crawley.
