The LKA had a number of competitors competing for the JKS England Team at the EKF National Championships, held at Ponds Forge, Sheffield on 22nd April. This was, for most, the first time competing under World Karate Federation (WKF) rules and bearing that in mind, it was a very successful outing. Leading the way was [...]

Eleven LKA members and our good friend Tim Griffiths from Bristol have just returned from a training trip to the JKS Hombu Dojo in Tokyo, Japan.  As expected, the training sessions in Tokyo were very hard, and in the 6 sessions that we completed there we trained with Sensei’s Kagawa, Inada, Matsue, Nagaki and Kai.  [...]

On Tuesday 13th March, the LKA were truly honoured to host Kagawa Sensei, 8th Dan Chief Instructor of the JKS worldwide.  Sensei probably needs no introduction, but he was, in his younger days, an All-Japan and World Champion, renowned for his ability in both Kata and Kumite.  These days he is coach to the Japanese [...]

The LKA had a squad of over 40 competitors go to compete at the 43rd North West Open held, as usual, in Atherton. The LKA Hombu Dojo was packed on Monday 4th July for the visit of our good friend Alan Campbell 6th Dan, Chairman of the JKS in England.  The main theme for Alan’s instruction for the evening was relaxation and the generation of power from the hips.  Alan’s relaxed and humorous way of instructing put everyone [...]

The LKA took a Squad of 37 competitors to Chesterfield for the annual KUGB Youth Championships. We had an excellent set of results taking 4 Gold, 4 Silver and 3 Bronze medals. Perhaps most pleasing was the fact that there were two all-LKA Kumite finals. Firstly Emelye O’Brien beat Holly Dickinson to the Girls Over [...]

The entry was a good mixture of experienced competitors and club members giving it a go in a friendly environment.

On the 14th March, the LKA was very honoured to host Sensei Antonio Oliva Seba 8th Dan, a WKF International Coach.  Sensei is Spanish and has been practising Karate for around 45 years.
