The LKA took a Squad of 37 competitors to Chesterfield for the annual KUGB Youth Championships. We had an excellent set of results taking 4 Gold, 4 Silver and 3 Bronze medals. Perhaps most pleasing was the fact that there were two all-LKA Kumite finals. Firstly Emelye O’Brien beat Holly Dickinson to the Girls Over 5’3” Kumite title. This follows on from Emelye’s win at the KUGB National Championships in May, giving her a second win in this category when she is only 12 Years old (the category is for 12-15 Year olds!).
Secondly Jordon Probst proved too quick for team-mate Joe Finlay in the Cadet Kumite final. Jordon had been in spectacular form all day and like Emelye, had won the KUGB Nationals in May also. Joe had also medalled at the KUGB Nationals.
James Brown showed good all round ability in winning the Boys Kumite Over 5’5” and also 4th place in the boys Black Belt Kata event. Again, like Emelye and Jordon before him, James had won this Kumite event at the KUGB Nationals in May. These competitors showed a pleasing consistency in their performances.
Finally Kieran Tucker won the Boys Kata Novice-4th Kyu event with a nice performance of Heian Godan. Kieran also fought very well and although he didn’t get a medal this time, he’s showing good progress in following in his older brothers footsteps.
