Leeds Karate Academy was formed in January 2001.
Since then it has continuously evolved so that it has always provided the very best karate experience possible to it's members both young and old.
Affiliate to Japan Karate Shotorenmei
In January 2012 the LKA affiliated to JKS England and JKS Japan. This was a move designed to give members consistent access to top quality Japanese Instructors.
As we became part of the JKS family, LKA instructors were recognised for their exceptional performance and were made head coaches of the JKS England National Team.
Currently, Sensei Ashley-Scott Heald assists the JKS England Coaching Team at competitions.
The LKA strives to offer Karate training for all ages and levels of ability and is proud of the size of our membership and quality of our students. We offer access to the highest level of competition for those that wish to go down that route.
All our Dan grades have their grades registered in Tokyo, Japan.
Leading by example
In December 2018 Nick Heald was graded to 7th Dan and his Wife, Ashley Scott-Heald, was graded to 5th Dan in Tokyo by Kagawa Shihan, World Chief Instructor of the JKS.
Throughout out history many Leeds Karate Academy members have achieved significant competition success. Amongst them Sensei Ashley Scott-Heald was captain of the JKS England National Team and travelled the world competing in numerous World Karate Federation events.
Meanwhile our Chief Instructor, Sensei Nick Heald has become a respected British Karate Federation Referee, adding yet more strength and insight into our the training programs for our elite members.
